Thinks It Is Andree's Balloon

A C.P.R. Night Operator Plainly Observed it and Gives a Description of the Air Ship

(Special to The Journal.)

Fort William, Ont., Jan. 17. Andree's balloon or whatever the object may be which was reported as having passed over Duluth a few days ago, traveling in a northeasterly direction, was seen here on Saturday night [January 15] by a man named Nichols, a night operator on the Canadian Pacific Railway, while on his way to work, between 11 and 12 o'clock.

When he first sighted the peculiar object in the skies it looked like the lantern of the lighthouse in Thunder Bay. It gradually grew larger and assumed a peculiar shape.

Nichols came to the conclusion that it was Andree's balloon. The air ship glided along with a slow and regular motion and finally drifted northward, out of sight.
